Virtual reality (VR) isn’t a new concept, but its early entertainment offerings were limited, and the tech was expensive. This is no longer the case. This has produced an influx of excellent first-party games and enhanced ports that take full advantage of this unique medium. July's VR gaming scene is heating up with some seriously tempting releases — and after hands-on testing with six of this month's major launches, I can tell you this lineup delivers on its promises. From zombie hordes to puzzle adventures, this month offers something for every type of VR enthusiast, with genuine surprises that justify the wallet damage. Let's be honest: summer game releases can be hit-or-miss, but July 2025 is shaping up differently. Here's the big one: World War Z VR is set to unlock in approximately two months, putting it squarely in our July window. Based on the hit game that's captivated over 25 million players, this isn't just another zombie shooter — it's a complete reimagining for VR that actually earns the hype. What sets this apart is the scale — the original's signature overwhelming swarms get the full VR treatment, with three difficulty levels and customizable operator loadouts that actually impact how you approach each encounter. But here's where it gets real: you're looking at 25 GB of storage requirements and some beefy system specs. That RTX 3080 recommendation isn't just marketing speak — lower-end cards struggle with the swarm density that makes this game special.Add Prison Boss Prohibition arriving July 10 across PC VR and Quest, plus Requisition VR hitting both Pico and Quest simultaneously, and that's four solid options dropping the same day. PRO TIP: With this July 10th pile-up, prioritize based on your platform and wait 48-72 hours for community feedback before additional purchases. Three games launching simultaneously means reviews need time to surface.
With July nearly here, we've rounded up our latest highlights for new VR games on Quest, Steam, PlayStation VR2, and Pico.
We reviewed Zombie Army VR, Little Thief, Neon Cipher, Wordomi and The Phoenix Gene, alongside offering hands-on impressions for Alliance Peacefighter, Badminton Time VR, The Smurfs - Flower Defense, and Exer Gale. We'll bring you our thoughts on Cave Crave and Neolithic Dawn soon, and V-Racer Hoverbike was another notable release. Be sure to keep an eye out for any updates to this page; the UploadVR Showcase is returning on July 11 at 10am PT, and our accompanying Humble Bundle is also live with various SteamVR titles. We'll aim to continue refreshing this list if more games get announced or delayed beyond showcase announcements, too, and our upcoming VR games list remains regularly updated.Firmament offers a flawed but entertaining journey through the Three Realms, though PC VR support misses the mark. Our review: ... Developed by 3R Games, Cave Crave involves exploring tight tunnels and caves as you try to find an escape. Featuring an optional horror mode, this requires marking clues across cave walls using chalk, clearing obstacles with a hammer, and using ice axes to climb across walls.Developed by ClockStone Studio, Bridge Constructor Studio is a hectic physics-based bridge-building game that previously launched on Quest. Now heading for flatscreen platforms and Steam with optional PC VR support, this includes a 70-puzzle campaign with various challenges and the ability to create your own stages.Bow Course by Korpi Games is an archery golfing game that's currently in early access. Released on Quest in May with both single-player and multiplayer support, Bow Course promises realistic physics across two 9 target courses with customizable difficulty settings and whoever takes the least shots wins. ... Released back in March on Quest, HIT is the latest VR game from Noun Town and Project Aeroes studio SUPER HYPER MEGA.
Between 2019 and 2022, Meta went on a veritable shopping spree of experienced studios to help push its VR game portfolio, culminating in nine VR studios acquired to date. Here we take a look what’s happened over the past six years, including everything from recent successes to outright shutdowns.
Then, in June 2025, Meta announced Beat Saber was abandoning the PSVR/2 version of the game, saying it will no longer be updated, which included any new DLC or features beyond what’s already there. What’s more, PSVR multiplayer is set to be shutdown in early 2026. Amid the news, the team teased there is something in store, noting that the studio is now focusing on the “the next big leap for Beat Saber.” · Beat Saber is one of the most profitable VR games to date, having followed a pretty well-worn formula by now.Eventually, development on Lone Echo II began, with announced plans to launch in 2019. But a series of delays ensued. Meta came along and acquired Ready at Dawn in 2020, seemingly willing to help the studio complete the game and build on the social success of Echo VR.Onward was one of those early mainstays for VR mil-sim players ever since it released on Steam and Rift in 2016. With the acquisition of Downpour Interactive in 2021, Meta saw this as an opportunity to support a popular game, noting at the time it wanted to help “in growing Onward as one of the foremost multiplayer VR games.”He's right above. Some developers won't even make VR games or Nintendo Switch games because the current power limits their freedom to make games when current consoles and PC dwarf stand alone power. Doesn't mean good games can't be made. They just don't bother.

July sees the launch of a promising VR racing simulation from Early Access, and the "Space Explorers" return to the Meta Quest.
"Bow Course: Archery Golf" mischt zwei in VR sehr populäre Sportarten: Golf und Bogenschießen. (Bild: Korpi Games Oy) Felix & Paul Studios are releasing their "Space Explorers Ultimate Edition" exclusively for Meta Quest in July. The new version of the multi-award-winning VR documentary brings together all previously released content about life on the International Space Station (ISS).VR support was introduced in September 2024 and has been continuously improved ever since. Most recently, the developers adapted the interface, which now also works fully in the headset. However, VR performance is heavily dependent on the system, especially when driving at night or in the rain.Alone or in co-op mode, VR gangsters can expand their empire, unlock new equipment and dominate their district. The "economic simulation", which doesn't take itself too seriously, will be released on July 10 for Meta Quest and SteamVR.The VR experiences from the "Space Explorers" series deliver original images of the ISS to the VR glasses.
I'm not making any friends with this opinion, and that's OK. I love playing games in my Meta Quest 3. No, I'm not talking about VR games — though I'll happily take on anyone in Beat Saber — I'm talking about my regular, ol' Steam games.
Now, before you click off because I'm talking about a VR headset, know that I was in the exact same boat as you. I didn't care about playing most VR games, and I didn't see the need to buy a headset. But once I was introduced to playing games on a virtual screen, it was like a revelation.I played through the Lies of P Overture DLC this way, and I made my way through most of the endgame in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on my Quest 3. I wouldn't boot up Marvel Rivals or Path of Exile 2, but for those immersive, single-player games, I've yet to see a proper monitor as immersive as playing on a virtual screen in the Quest 3. Streaming your non-VR games to a VR headset isn't anything new, but there are a few aspects of the Quest 3 that make this experience practical.Passthrough has been around since Oculus was branded on headsets, but the passthrough is really good on the Quest 3, especially in decent lighting conditions. I primarily play games in passthrough mode so I can see the surrounding room, pet my dog and cats when they need a bit of attention, grab a drink of water, or really anything else that I wouldn't be able to do in some VR environment. Now, you don't need to go through a 15-minute process of drawing your boundary just because you sit in a different spot. And now, you don't need a mass of cables hanging off your back to keep the headset running. VR has progressed a lot over the past few years, and it's created a device like the Quest 3 that, believe it or not, is shockingly convenient for playing PC games.

Reach is one of the coolest VR games I’ve played in a long time. Chasing the high of classic cinematic action games like Tomb Raider or Uncharted, I had a blast climbing ledges, jumping between buildings, and popping enemies while dual-wielding pistols in NDreams' latest.
Chasing the high of classic cinematic action games like Tomb Raider or Uncharted, I had a blast climbing ledges, jumping between buildings, and popping enemies while dual-wielding pistols in NDreams' latest. With dynamic movement and a surprisingly accurate sense of full-body awareness, I can’t wait to see more from this one, even if I got a little dizzy jumping as I platformed my way through the first level. VR games often need to tow a delicate balance.Moving in a 3D space with stick-based movement is a surefire way to cause motion sickness for a lot of players, so a majority of VR games are designed in a way that takes both point-and-teleport-based movement and stick-based movement into account.Moreso than any kind of cool action setpiece or stealth encounter, this kind of little detail – snagging a ledge just in time, saving myself from falling to certain doom – helps break free from the often on-rails feeling VR games can have. In sections where I wasn’t so lucky and wound up replaying a few times, I found myself skipping jumps and getting from point A to B in new ways each time. After that, there were a few more shootouts, though they didn’t task me with navigating an enclosed space in quite the same way. Instead, they took the shape of more traditional shooting gallery-style encounters like you’d find in plenty of other VR games with guns.
Humble Bundle has something for VR gamers right now - eight games for $18, and it's way better value than the ongoing Steam Summer Sale.
The Steam Summer Sale kicked off last week, offering discounts on hundreds of games. There are plenty of great titles available for under $10 and even under $5, with discounts going up to 95%. While the sale has some solid deals, there’s a bundle on Humble that can help you save much more on a collection of VR games. If you head over to Humble Bundle, you’ll find a new bundle called Upload VR Showcase Summer 2025. This is one of the latest bundles being offered on the site, and as its name suggests, it includes a collection of VR games. While there are eight games in total and one discount coupon, Humble has divided them into three tiers. This bundle stands out because it offers better value than what you'd get on Steam. For instance, Vertigo 2 alone costs $20.99 on Steam even after a discount during the Summer Sale. And for $3 less, Humble is offering seven more games, so you shouldn’t miss out on this one, especially if you’re into VR games. In any case, here’s a complete list of games included in the Upload VR Showcase Summer 2025 bundle.

With Fragments of Fate dropping soon, I couldn’t be more excited. I think its gonna kick ass and fix the combat problems this one suffered from. 9. Pistol Whip One of my first VR purchases, and I’m still playing it years later. This is rhythm-shooter perfection—bullet-hell action synced to music in a way only VR can pull off. With endless content, mods, and a gameplay loop that never gets old, it’s easily the best rhythm game in VR.This wacky, Half-Life-esque shooter is bursting with creativity—branching paths, wild weapons, and some of the most unique mechanics in VR. A 10-12 hour campaign packed with secrets, insane boss fights, and an addictive upgrade system. And with Into the Aether DLC dropping soon, I’m more than ready for another trip into madness. 6. Batman: Arkham Shadow Last year’s Game of the Year for me.This game even helped me diagnose a low tire pressure IRL. Pair it with a direct-drive wheel, and it’s as close as you can get to rally racing without totaling your car. 4. Walkabout Mini Golf The best mini-golf experience. Period. Walkabout captures real-life mini-golf but removes the downsides—no waiting, no bad angles, just pure fun in impossible, dreamlike courses. The physics are flawless, the DLC is a steal, and it’s the ultimate chill VR game.

As we see new iterations of the Quest release and more games are getting announced for PSVR, it's slowly popping up more and more again. While I own a PSVR2 unit, I admittedly haven't really played around with it much over the past few years. I'm very interested in a few games coming out though (lumine's arise being at the top of the list). · Do you play in VR?I don't mind if it stays a niche, developers try harder and more creative that way! Plenty more games on the way. The only 'issue' I have is, I loved Death Stranding, DS 2 is coming out tomorrow, I don't feel excited to play it at all :/ It's not in VR, why bother...And I tend to use it for 3D content rather than strictly VR content. They have come a long way, but more improvements need to happen to make it a truly seamless experience... I wouldn't mind some active venting so the displays don't fog up during use though. The games are expensive...But I don't have the money to get a PSVR2, but there seems to be a lot of good content available for it (and other VR) ... While it’s more expensive at $500, it’s also a far more capable headset than the Quest 2 and the new Quest 3S, with hardware and optics that will keep you happily immersed in VR for years. The Quest 3 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip, which Meta says has double the graphics power of the Quest 2. That additional power is noticeable in games like Red Matter 2, which feature updated textures that deliver an experience closer to PC VR.The Quest 3’s new displays run at 2,064 by 2,208 pixels per eye, offering an even better experience than the PlayStation VR2. Its mixed reality cameras also let you easily see the real world, in case you need to quickly answer a text or Slack message. And they enable games that can be built around your room.VR newbies probably won’t notice the difference much though, and that’s what really matters. The Quest 3S is just as comfortable as the Quest 3 to wear, and it can easily access the same apps and games on the Meta Quest Store. There’s no headphone jack either, but its built-in speakers deliver solid enveloping audio for games like Maestro, and you could also plug in a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, or just pair wireless headphones. The Quest 3S can connect to gaming PCs over USB-C or wirelessly to play more intense VR experiences.
